Our Story

Adelaide's volleyball community since 1978.

TTGVA is a non-profit volunteer association that has been running social volleyball competitions in Adelaide's north-east since 1978. We exist to give people of all skill levels a great experience: Fitness, Friends, and Fun.

Origin

How it started.

A council meeting, two volleyball enthusiasts, and the first game played at Burragah on 31 March 1978.

In 1977, Karl Richter and David O'Brien approached the local council with a simple proposal: Adelaide's north-east needed a place to play social volleyball. The council agreed, and within months a working group had been established.

The first committee brought together Karl (President), Dave O'Brien (Secretary) and Mark Norman (Treasurer), along with committee members Teresa Smith, John Ling, Gail Norman and Patricia O'Brien, names that still echo through TTGVA today.

TTGVA was officially opened on 31 March 1978 at Burragah stadium with the first match of what would become a 45+ year competition. As demand grew, the association moved to the purpose-built GGRAC in 1990, still our home today.

From those first few teams, TTGVA has grown to hundreds of members across three nights of competition each week, but the original mission hasn't changed: Fitness, Friends, and Fun.

    First Life Members awarded.

  3. 1990

    TTGVA moves to GGRAC.

  4. 1997

    Honour Member award introduced.

  5. 2008

    30th Anniversary celebration season.

  6. 2016

    Player Loyalty Award scheme introduced.

  7. 2020

    Association Awards & Merits introduced.

  8. 2023

    TTGVA Open tournament held.

  9. Today

    400+ members, 60+ teams, 3 competition nights.

In Memoriam

In Memory of Karl Richter

Karl Richter was the founding President of TTGVA and a Life Member since 1989, serving as President for nearly 20 years and shaping the association from the ground up. Karl passed away in April 2011. His contribution to TTGVA and its members was honest, forthcoming and giving in nature, and he is remembered as one of the founding fathers of volleyball in Adelaide's north-east.
